Sony NEX 5RK Compact Interchangeable Digital

Sony NEX 5RK Compact Interchangeable Digital

I have been using my NEX-5r for about a week now. I am an amateur photographer and have had Canon and Nikon entry level and middle DSLR's.

The bottom line is that if you have the money to buy a $3,000 dollar DSLR, then do it. Otherwise, any camera below that is going to be pretty similar in photo quality. I can say with confidence that this little camera shoots like a $2,000 dollar DSLR. And probably with a high quality lense will shoot pictures that look like a $3,000 DSLR.

It came down to three options for a go-to everyday camera. The A66, the NEX-7, and the NEX-5r. Picture quality is virtually the same. Unless you want to print poster size pics, you don't need a 20+ mp camera. For amateur and digital only photography (no printing), 16 mp are more than enough. With features like WiFi for easy transfer to smartphones or computers, the NEX-5r is the best camera for the amateur photographer.

AGFA 62mm Professional Deluxe APHLH62

AGFA 62mm Professional Deluxe APHLH62

I bought this lens as a result of the damage of my other sigma lens(18-50mm). Basically it fell out of my camera bag. I was going to save up for the Canon L series version of this lens, but I was forced to buy a lens pronto... Fortunately I'd already done research on these lenses. The main drawbacks of this lens is the lack of USM, and the fact that the 82mm filter screw is larger than normal... But that's ok. I don't like filters anyway, and for the 800 dollar difference, quietness is not worth it. I went to canoga camera and tried both the L lens and the sigma... Back at home with my big cinematic monitor I couldn't tell the difference between the two lenses... I'm glad that I wrote down which exposures were which.

I've heard complaints about flair on this lens... I couldn't find it. with the provided lens hood attached, I took a few pictures directed at a bright glass door, the sun behind a model, and sun through the trees, and nothing... The glass on this is great, very low amount of aberation... only at extreme wide open aperture.

To review:
Sigma... No HSM, 82 mm, L quality image.
Canon... USM, 77mm, L quality image.

Center pinch 62mm snap keeper

Center pinch 62mm snap keeper

It's a good little cap! I ordered one of those stick-on lens cap keeper strings to use with my original cap, and this one at the same time. The sticky tape fell off as soon as I took the other out of the box, so I went straight to this and haven't looked back. I was a little hesitant about using a cheap cap on my expensive lens, I worried that it wouldn't cover it well, would let dust in, etc. This one seems to work just as well as the original Tamron, but it has the string to use as a keeper!

I have the string looped through the carrying strap holder on the upper left of my T2i. My lens is a Tamron 18-270 (which I never take off), and the string length is about right when the lens is closed up all the way. It probably wouldn't work as well there on a pure tele lens with the string length, but you could always get creative. I didn't see a great way to loop / attach it to the lens itself.

Lensbaby Creative Effects Canon Digital

I was a bit skeptic of this buy, this there was only one other review and hundreds of other hoods here on Amazon for about the same price. I am so happy I chose this one. It came in a timely fashion, it screwed on nicely, and really has 4 adjustable angles if you count all the way pushed in. It's easy to push it between the 3, or 4, sizes. On the largest size I was picking up a bit of the sides, but the 2nd biggest size isn't much smaller, but it's just small enough where I don't get the edges anymore. The smallest size works well too if I'm filming inside and there's not a whole lot of need for it, and pushing it in all the way is still nice if I'm filming in a very well lit area, because it still gives a little protection from light above, and of course things such as dirt getting on my camera. It's very nice quality, I love how adjustable it is, it looks nice, it was affordable, I'm very very happy with my purchase.

TRIDENT AG MOT RAZRMXHD RED Motorola Aegis Case

TRIDENT AG MOT RAZRMXHD RED Motorola Aegis Case

We travel often, and I am a serious-amateur photographer, taking many photos on every trip, both in the US and in Europe. One of my criteria is that the camera must be one I can carry in my pants or jacket pocket so it's always ready, but still high quality enough to take excellent photos and videos, be versatile, and have a processor that allows me to take good shots without a flash in places such as museums, cathedrals, castles, and other interior sites. Most of cameras have been Canons, and they have performed well.
Based on reviews in camera mags, I bought the Canon SX260 this fall, as I thought its amazing 20x optical zoom, new processor, stabilizer, and wide angle lens would make it ideal for travel photos. At only $270 from Amazon, it was well below the big SLRs and other cameras I saw advertised, but would still be in-the-pocket ready.
We have just returned from a two-week tour of Scotland- lots of lakes (lochs), the highlands, historic sites - a real test for any camera. In every respect, the Canon 260 lived up to its claims, and, in my opinion, may be the best camera for travelers on the market.
The 20x zoom, over and over, allowed my to get shots of scenery, people, castle and cathedral interiors that would have been impossible before. The amazing processor "gathered" light in even very dim places,so I never had to use a flash once; I turned in off on the first day of the tour and never needed it for two weeks! And - a small but appreciated detail -- in every Canon before, if you turned the flash off for a shot, the next time you turned on the camera, it defaulted to flash on, making you turn it off over and over. With the 260, if you turn it off, it stays off until you change it - a big time saver. I was even able to take night shots of the lights and harbor at Oban- no flash, handheld and stabilized. The improved video controls on the back make that job easier as well.
Although a bit larger by about 1/4" and a bit heavier by about 1 1/2oz, it is still easily an in-the-pocket, ready to go camera for any trip or occasion.
In short, I 100% recommend this new Canon, for travel or otherwise,

GoPro CHDHN 301 HERO3 Silver Edition

GoPro CHDHN 301 HERO3 Silver Edition

I'm a professional videographer and photographer so I'm used to the technical aspects of setting up cameras. However, this was a cinch. I followed the directions to set up the camera and apply the software update from the web site and have had NO issues at all with this camera. Photos, video, wifi remote, all works fine as advertised. I also am able to hook up my camera and suck it all into my Apple iMac without a hitch. I've only had it a few days so I'll update when I work with the photos and videos more and kick the camera around a bit. This is a SMALL camera and I'm going to love keeping this in my pocket in addition to using it for POV and aerial applications. The low cost vs. high quality of this unit is hard to beat.

--- Update---- 5/6/2013
I have now had an issue with this camera shutting off on its own in video mode. My card appears to exceed specs so I don't think it's incompatible but it may be some card issue or there's still some bugs in this software. Will research this issue further and report back. Eventually all videos stop on their own.

Lowepro 250 back pack

Lowepro Fastpack 250 Arctic Blue

Lowepro Fastpack 250 Arctic Blue

I purchased the Lowepro 250 for many reasons. It simply looked like something I would own as a camera bag being the most basic and first reason I started to research it. Then after a month or so of looking for something similar I discovered there's not much out there that can compare to this bag. When you get down to it, I couldn't find another bag that allowed me the access to my camera as the 250 did. Nor did I find one that allowed easy access to my camera AND laptop.

You read all the reviews about how well its a good companion when you're traveling on an airplane, well I hiked across my state with the 250. No, it doesn't have a hard weather cover, but I found an all weather cover for about four dollars. And it did the job whenever it rained. No it doesn't have a tripod holster. My tripod has a case with a secure shoulder strap, and I simply ran the waste straps of the 250 through the shoulder strap of my tripod case and I didn't have any problems. I walked a little less than 400 miles with this bag. And from everything I've seen and use it for, there isn't a better bag.

It holds my camera with lense attached, two lens, flash, accessories (flash diffuser, extra batteries, battery charger, etc...) and my mini camcorder/charger all in the camera compartment. On top of that compartment there is a pocket that carries my cleaning gear and filters. Then up top I carry my mini portfolio of prints, business cards, pens and things and there's still enough from for snacks. Laptop fits perfectly in the space provided and my laptop external power supply rides shotgun in the extra pocket at the very front of the bag.

Yes. You'll find a review or two that critic that there is some wasted space on either side of the camera in the camera pocket. And there is. But this is not a huge deal to me as I recognize that this is not custom fit case for one particular camera. It does its job and does it very well.

As with anything... Make sure its what you want and it serves it purpose, like hiking across state for six days. And make sure that you think it through. This is a good bag and definitely worth the money.

Happy trails.

Vanguard BIIN 37 Backpack Orange

Vanguard BIIN 37 Backpack Orange

I think I've been hunting just about my entire life (well, photographic life that is) for the perfect bag, and this little gem may just have ended the hunt.

After reading the reviews, and checking measurements, I opted to go with the larger, BIIN 47. I carry two camera bodies and several lenses, so needed to have a bag that would hold at least one of the bodies and the extra lenses, and this little gem was perfect for that. My Canon 7d and 300mm f/4L IS lens are generally on my shoulder, so I am stowing my Canon T2i and extra lenses in the bag, as well as my speedlight.

The plan was to try to carry less "stuff" on day trips, but imagine my surprise to see that almost everything I could need fits in this bag. Except for the aforementioned 7d and L lens (which by the way does fit in the bag if I remove the floor from the small top area...but nothing else would fit), and maybe some extra filters, everything fits.

Even fully loaded, this bag is very comfortable, and I love being able to swing it around and to use that side pocket when I need to get something out.

My only concern was having two sling straps (the 7d is on a sling), but no problemo. One on each shoulder, and if I put the camera on last, it slides up and down it's sling strap just as it should.

I highly recommend this product.

:)

Professional Fisheye Cameras Including lenses

Professional Fisheye Cameras Including lenses

I bought this along with the LawMate HD Color Button Screw Covert Camera CMD-BU13. I wasn't expecting much for this price, but the quality of the video from the button camera, and the features in this unit, the video recorder, are exceptional. Highly highly recommended! Ease of use could be better, but this is a unit that is targeted at law enforcement. Just be sure to practice for a few hours before you actually need it. I purchased the supplemental battery pack so I could record for 12+ hours.

One of the reasons that you buy a unit like this is that the video it creates is certified to be accepted by law enforcement. Each frame is marked with a frame count in such a way that the video cannot be tampered with. The unit does record audio but you can turn it off, and I'd recommend doing so because I believe recording audio without consent is illegal. As far as I know video is fine. The screen on this unit could be better, in that you need to view it head on to get the best image. It isn't so good from the side, but most of the time you just need to see that you have your video framed up correctly. You won't be using this unit to view your final video. Just pull out the SDHC card and put it in your computer. It plays perfectly. I'll post a sample to YouTube when I have time!

Summary. This is a pro unit designed for professional use. It's the best I've seen in this price range.

It did the job perfectly

LawMate Button Covert Camera CMD BU13

LawMate Button Covert Camera CMD BU13

I bought this to go with my LawMate PV-500 HD EVO DVR. Both the camera and the recording unit are fully digital, and the quality is exceptional. Far better than I was expecting, and at full HD resolution. This is the perfect covert camera. You would have no idea that there is a camera behind the button. Even up close, you just couldn't tell. I was expecting a lot of distortion with the image, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well it performed. I'll post a sample to YouTube when I have time.

One of the things I love about this camera is that it is has a nice wide angle lens. Not too wide that you are going to see distortion, but wide enough that you don't need to worry about aiming it. Just point the button in roughly the direction that you need, and you are good.

The camera comes with a number of different button sizes and colors so you can find one that matches your needs. You can of course unscrew the button from the camera. With the button on, there is some vignetting around the corners of the image -- from the button holes -- but that cannot be helped, and it isn't that noticeable.

Summary. I was really surprised at how well this worked!

More than a macro-lens

Nikon 105mm 2 8G ED IF Micro Nikkor

Nikon 105mm 2 8G ED IF Micro Nikkor

This is not only a superb macro lens (though the offerings by Zeiss and Leitz are reputed even sharper, and more expensive) but it makes a very good all round 105 mm lens thanks to the vibration reduction. I've used this to make many a discreet shot at a wedding with my D300 and I didn't have to use a tripod, even in dim light. I have also used it to take shots of architectural details in dim light.
The contrast and the bokeh are excellent.
I should add that since its focusing range is so long (from a few centimeters to infinity) this lens is more likely to hunt when autofocusing than a standard 105mm lens, so it might not be the best lens for action shots. You need to be a little patient when using the autofocus.
In many macro situations you should turn the autofocusing off. I'll let you be the judge.
As for the VR you should definitely turn it off if you are using a tripod: you'll be wearing the mechanism out less and often the VR makes things worse.

As to sharpness the more formal tests whether on slrgear, popphoto, photozone or the French magazine Chasseur d'Images say it all.

Ray Ban ORB3449 Polarized Sunglasses Gunmetal

Ray Ban ORB3449 Polarized Sunglasses Gunmetal

I ordered this cap as the flimsy one that comes with the camera fell into the Santa Barbara harbor on the 4th of July. So I ordered 2. What I received didn't look at all like the picture shown on Amazon. There is no small permanent loop with an attached tether. and it doesn't have a flat face. What I did receive was 2 different caps and 2 stick on tethers. The finished "assembly" is shown in the photos I left on the site. The cap fits fine and is actually easier to remove than the original. After close inspection of the cap I noticed that there is a small slot on the side that one could attach a more pemanent cord to by running it through the slot. I may just try that. The seller in my case was "Angelseller". I let them know about this and curiously enough they very promptly sent me two more! So I give them an A for effort, and I now have 4 lens caps! It would be nice if the picture matched the unit though.

Works Really Well

JAWS Quick Spit Anti fog Spray

JAWS Quick Spit Anti fog Spray

I ordered and received the black case. There is definitely a high contrast between the light colored aluminum speakers and the shiny black plastic. I like it.

I have dropped the phone on pavement, cement, tile, and hardwood about 6 times from 3 to 5 feet up in the week I've had it. You can see why I need a case! Generally the drops are from a pants or coat pocket or from my hand while walking or putting it in the pocket or purse. No damage to the phone at all. It did put some corner wear/scuffs onto the case, but that's what I expect.

The case isn't too bulky isn't hard to put on. It is a good fit and the cutouts are right. The volume button is very hard to use with this case- if you are a woman with small hands you will need to use two hands to adjust the volume. I think that's a reasonable price to pay for a case that is pretty shock absorbant and not bulky.

Star Trek 's Into The Darkness next in it's series

Star Trek Into Darkness Blu ray

Star Trek Into Darkness Blu ray

If you liked the new Star Trek film format then you will also like "Into Darkness". Director J.J. Abrams has clearly gotten into his stride with this latest second one. He has decided to spice things up a little, but not too much. It is a little edgier than his first but at the same time it also ticks all the right boxes from the Star Trek "tradition".

This time it's all systems go as the movie opens with some hard-hitting volcanic and Vulcan action. As a result of what occurs on the planet, Kirk makes a decision to bend the rules and ignore the Prime Directive. With good reason I might add. But the decision lands him in some trouble. It's not all about logic.

The consequences of this do not last long. A weightier matter soon develops. There is a terrorist attack in London. It also transpires that Starfleet has not been whiter than white. A villain with a grudge is now on the loose. And this dangerous enemy has brains. There are a few little twists, all is not what it seems.

What happens to Kirk much later on in the movie comes as a big surprise. Some would say this is pushing it a bit - but it certainly makes for high drama.

At more than 2 hours long viewers will certainly get their money's worth with this one. You will be on the edge of your seat for much of it. Older Trekkies will recall some scenes from the original TV series in a burst of nostalgia. Visually too, this film cannot be faulted.

Overall, this is a great viewing experience.

A great alternative to prescription shooting glasses.

Uvex S3160X Ambient Eyewear Anti Fog

Uvex S3160X Ambient Eyewear Anti Fog

These are by far the most comfortable OTG safety glasses I've worn. Right out of the box, they needed some minor adjustments, but that seems to have been intentional on the part of Uvex. They include easy to read pictorials showing you how to adjust the length of the arms, the bend of the arms, and how to remove the nosepiece (I assume for cleaning). I bent the arms so they'd wrap properly over my ear, and turned them in just slightly to prevent them from slipping. I didn't need any tools - just the heat of my hands and two minutes of patience.

As a senior mechanical engineering student, to work in the shop on our senior project, we are (rightly) required to wear safety glasses rated for impact at all times. I wear glasses and I have really struggled to find comfortable safety glasses that fit over my Rx glasses. The selection at the local big box hardware stores is dismal for OTG frames. Basically the only choice offered are the ubiquitous economy ones (MSA Safety Works 817691 Over Economical Safety Glasses, Clear) that every shop and lab keeps on hand to provide to short-term visitors. No one claims they're comfortable for regular or long-term wear. I wear small, nearly rectangular Rx frames - I find those MSA glasses stay on by putting pressure on the sides of my head - my nose doesn't even touch the nose piece!

These are great, affordable OTG safety glasses for those of us who can't justify or afford Rx safety glasses purchased on our own dime. They fit close to the face, but provide plenty of room for typical Rx glasses frames. They're easily adjustable for the perfect fit, and don't depend on pressure above your ears or scraping your frames to stay on.

The only way to improve these, in my opinion, is to put an anti-glare coating on the lenses. Although they're clearly intended for labwork (as opposed to outdoors), most shops and labs are lit by fluorescent lights with a lot of glare. As is, I give them a 4.75 out of 5. Thanks Uvex!

Opteka Definition Telephoto Converter 650 1300mm

Opteka Definition Telephoto Converter 650 1300mm

I waited as long as I could to buy the SX50HS at a local store due to the desire to have hands on prior to the purchase. I went to Yellowstone in early October 2012. I took about 1000 pictures and had about a dozen duds; even shooting through the windshield, giving less than normal time for focusing, and taking pictures at 55 mph.
I used it for the first two days prior to recharging. I did not have a problem of running out of battery. However, I have ordered a spare battery after the trip. The pictures are incredible.
I have used a SX20 at work for a few years - so the controls were very familiar. I mostly stayed with auto, but I do use manual controls as needed.
The 50 power zoom was incredible. It was rarely hard to hold still. Most of the time I would just center the item, trust the camera, and click. The camera took care of me! I also had to pull in the zoom once in a while to get the camera to refocus. This was mostly on areas such as the mudpits, which don't have defined edges or contrast. Almost all of these shots came out wonderful.
The HD video is exceptional for a camera - not quite as good as a good video camcorder. (better than my old 8mm video camcorder). The pictures taken from the video are surprisingly good. I took about 30 minutes of video.
I'm glad I waited. 50x is worth it! I was amazed at how often the zoom was maxed out. I did not have any issues with lack of light. Image Stabilization was very capable.
All cameras of this type should have this cameras vari-angle style LCD.
Only minor dissapointment = Viewfinder - Even with diopter adjustment is not as good as the viewfinder on my old A620 (Canon 5 MP camera).

Love the 55-300!

Nikon 55 300mm 4 5 5 6G Nikkor Digital

Nikon 55 300mm 4 5 5 6G Nikkor Digital

This is a great lens for the money. If your a DX user, definitely consider this lens. I've used the 70-300mm VR and it's also a great lens but it's much heavier and larger because it's designed for full-frame bodies. In my opinion, picture quality between the 55-300 and the 70-300 is nearly identical. Focus speed on the 55-300 is a bit slower and the front rotates while focusing. These things aside, if you are not planning on moving up to an FX body then this is a great choice. It's metal mount, rubber gasket and VRII are all included on this lens which is amazing given it's low price. This lens also produces very nice Bokeh!

I would recommend this lens over the 55-200VR lens because of it's better build quality, longer range and VRII. I also believe the 55-300VR has slightly better image quality than the 55-200VR.

I would recommend this lens over the 70-300VR for DX only users if the slower focus speed doesn't bother you.

Overall this is a great lens for Nikon DX bodies.
