Fotodiox 3 Section Rubber Lens Shade
I was a bit skeptic of this buy, this there was only one other review and hundreds of other hoods here on Amazon for about the same price. I am so happy I chose this one. It came in a timely fashion, it screwed on nicely, and really has 4 adjustable angles if you count all the way pushed in. It's easy to push it between the 3, or 4, sizes. On the largest size I was picking up a bit of the sides, but the 2nd biggest size isn't much smaller, but it's just small enough where I don't get the edges anymore. The smallest size works well too if I'm filming inside and there's not a whole lot of need for it, and pushing it in all the way is still nice if I'm filming in a very well lit area, because it still gives a little protection from light above, and of course things such as dirt getting on my camera. It's very nice quality, I love how adjustable it is, it looks nice, it was affordable, I'm very very happy with my purchase.

If it's possible to "love" a lens hood, well, we love this lens hood. We use two D40 Nikons and just added a D3100 to our equipment. This lens hood is even better than the much, much more expensive Nikon hood. Check out the price and you will see. We like the flexibility of the three settings on this hood. It's a bit hard to explain , but believe me it works! Also, this hood threads right onto your lens for a good solid hold. Yes, you can still use the lens cap when needed. This is our "best buy" of the month! So glad we found this one.
BalasHapusIt can actually be set in four positions, depending on how the two innermost sections are folded. Perfect for the Sony E-mount (NEX) 55-210 lens. Nice deep cup when fully extended.
BalasHapusAll my lens hoods are from Fotodiox, but are hard plastic except for this one. I chose this hood for my Canon 50mm 1.8 lens because that lens is cheaply made, held together only by clips, and there are reports of the lens coming apart after accidentally being bumped against something. This hood is much less likely to put damaging pressure on the lens because it has so much "give" if it bumps against something.
BalasHapusThe threads on the hood match with those on the lens, so there is no trouble screwing it on or off. Inner patch lens caps can be put on and taken off the lens when the hood is in place, and you have a choice of 3 positions, ranging from closed to fully extended.
For the Canon 50mm 1.8 lens, this is an excellent choice for a lens hood.
The lens hood for all my lenses are from Fotodiox. The offer a good product for much less than Canon. Most are hard plastic and kept on the lens, but I wanted this rubber one for my Canon 18-135 lens, my walk-around lens, for a specific purpose. When I have the opportunity, I take photos through glass, such as at an aquarium or through the window of an observation tower. Many times photos have been spoiled by reflection on the glass from lights and sunlight coming from overhead, back or sides. However. now I can press the rubber rim of this hood against the glass, isolating the scene or figure I want to photograph and eliminate the glare/reflection on the glass. Also because the rubber is flexible, with the hood against the glass I can still move the camera a bit up, down and sideways to get the shot that I want.
BalasHapusThe threads on the filter are a good match for those on the lens, and center-pinch lens caps can be put on and taken off when the hood is in place.
Because I happen to prefer plastic hoods for general use, does not mean every one should or does. This lens hood would also work well for general use for those who only want one hood for their 67 mm lens.

BalasHapusAwesome three positions it seems alot more like two but the third is all the way retracted and any thing below 30mm you can see it it looks alot like vignetting but not as smooth just a hard corner
BalasHapusThe sunshade that comes with the Pentax K-5IIs is loose and falls off just by moving the camera when carrying it. This one screws on and stays on. I will leave this and the glass lens protector on all the time.
BalasHapusThis was far better than I had anticipated it would be. It holds all three folding positions well and maintains a relatively light weight while still having solid construction. Please understand that when you are purchasing a rubber hood and that's any rubber hood not just this one that you are giving up any of the protective capabilities of a lens hood. This is purely to keep unwanted light out. The metal ring that screws onto the front of the lens is very solid and much thicker than I thought it would be. This is good because I was afraid of the metal bending and not fitting on the lens anymore. Unlike other rubber hoods I have used the thickness of the rubber is right on with this one as well. Sometimes the rubber can be so thick that it weighs down the lens and other times it can be so thin that it can't hold its shape. This one is just right. The only issue I have had so far isn't so much an issue with this hood rather than my own lens cap. I have a lens cap that slides over the end of the lens instead of fitting on the inside rim of it. This means every time I want to put the cap back on I have to unscrew the hood first. If you are like me I would suggest buying a new lens cap when you purchase this, one that will fit on the inside rim of the lens.
BalasHapusI read several reviews of this on Amazon for various sizes and was speculative. I will just say this, expect the Hood to be soft, but very strong and well made. With this in mind I will make a list of the following observations.
BalasHapus+Flexible enough to fit in your camera case, but too soft to take a HARD hit on behalf of the lens - then again...no body should be smacking their lens
+Rubber hood is soft, but strong enough that SMALL hits will not shock the lens and serve as a better protector than a metal hood since rubber absorbs shock
+Because the hood is soft, it folds to 3 positions that are VERY useful
+Shockingly, the hood folds quickly and very precisely to its 3 positions.
+Lens caps fit perfectly within the hood, and the hood screws precisely onto my lens...really nice.
Honestly, I am surprised at the usefulness and value of this lens hood...I was getting hazing using my 50mm prime lens when shooting with the sun forward and to a slight angle to my shots...this hood, folded out to the max, completely blocked out ALL the hazing and got ZERO vignetting. Again, optically speaking, this hood supersedes all expectations of usefulness and really allows for clear shooting. Other hoods just don't block out enough glare and haze for me...this one is perfect.
At $3 bucks when I bought this, it was a no-brainer...I'd pay 10 bucks...so I bought more hoods and lens caps from these guys...all ended up being very well made.
Please note I use a Pentax K5 and a KR, I use 1 Sigma 77mm thread and the rest are various sized Pentax lenses...the Fotodiox products worked for all my lenses.
Happy shooting.
