One of the Best Primes Ever Made!

Pentax 31mm Limited Samsung Cameras

Pentax 31mm Limited Samsung Cameras

This is large, just like the ones were back in the day. It has streets in it, though they aren't named. The FIRST thing I did when I looked at it was find the streets for the places that I had lived the longest (one 22 years, one 14 years, and one about 10 years or so). It's just really interesting all the things you can find in this. I found things (and places) I had never known existed, that were within a few miles of my homes! Next I looked at wildernesses and swamps all over the state. Huge places that are either unliveable or owned by the govt and not for sale.

We found a route we didn't know about to a city up in Georgia, and drove up there yesterday. Have just been looking at it again and seeing all kinds of things I had never known about in different places. (Enjoying it just like I did almanacs when I was a kid!)

I'm going to look for a couple more states to see if they have one of these on them too. I would say the best thing about this atlas is to look at and see what things are in and around certain areas you may be interested in. (There are several really strange looking things in the atlas, which make me want to go look them over. Probably not a good idea!)

I definitely recommend this for people who live in Florida or who are moving there. If you are traveling, would recommend if you're going to do a fairly long road trip. Not so much for your run of the mill tourist. Not unless you want to thoroughly investigate an area and get off the beaten track.

  1. I'm not the first and will not be the last hobbyist or professional to extol the virtues of this impeccable product. But beyond that, there has been so many reviews written about this archival quality photo glass that my comments would be psaltry. So suffice to say, it's everything good that has ever been said about it. Coupled with one of Pentax's fine Digital SLRs with Shake Reduction (or without it) you can count on getting some of the finest, sharpest, most detailed images recordable. So there!

  2. This lens is epic. I have other prime lenses: 55mm, 100mm and a solid Sigma 10mm - 20mm but none of them compare to this lens. If you own a Pentax, you must own this lens.

  3. I absolutely love this lens. It is one of the exalted three autofocus Pentax primes (the others being the 43mm and 77mm). While this lens is capable of taking very mediocre images, when combined with the right light, and the right composition and subject emotion, the images are absolutely sublime. Ever since I've gotten this lens, none of my other lenses have been touched. That includes the 43mm.

While the lens is not as small as the 43mm, it remains pocketable in my ski jacket.

  4. The Pentax-FA 31mm f/1.8 lens is the piece of glass every Pentaxian wants to own and priced within reason. It's fast, sharp wide open, and retains great contrast. The only reason one would ever give up this lens would be because of its price, but compared to its Canon and Nikon counterparts, it's real a steal. Pentax has a great lineup of cropped cameras coming out starting from the K-x to the K-5, which makes having this lens even more attractive. Now only if Pentax could produce a full frame DSLR camera...

  5. The FA Limiteds possess the best attributes of my finest vintage lenses (stunning colors and 3D), then adds AF. Compact, all metal with a smooth jewel-like feel.

The FA-31 is ideal for landscape and as a walkabout lens. Sharp wide-open, amazingly sharp a couple stops down yet avoids the harsh and flattened perspective associated with newer lens designs. Has a more dimensional 'analog' film look which I prefer. Finest bokeh of any wide-angle.
Some purple-fringing can occur in high-contrast situations, and the AF is not as quick or accurate as its siblings. These are minor though, and haven't really been an issue for me.

The biggest downside is the price. It was already expensive to begin with, now it's bordering excessive. When simply the best will do...

  6. This lens is incredible. The contrast is top-notch straight from f/1.8, as well as sharpness. The colour rendering is accurate. But the most amazing feature of this lens is the bokeh (out-of-focus areas). it is very progressive, butter-smooth, really beautiful.
The lens itself is all metal, very well built (apart from the lens cap that is plastic, such a pity).
Really a must-have for pentax and samsung users, very difficult to get it off your camera :)

  7. No need to say more. FA 31 is the ONE lens you have to get as a pentaxian. It may not be the sharpest lens ever, but the bokeh and rendering is exceptional for sure!
