Great camera and laptop bag

ONA Union Street Camera Laptop

ONA Union Street Camera Laptop

I'm a professional photographer and have been searching for a bag like this for about 10 years. I had previously used bags that weren't made for photographers and I never understood before why I couldn't find a bag that handled the below criteria:

1. Was comfortable to carry around for daily walk-around use. I do street photography a couple times a week so this is important. I take the bag with my camera in it almost everywhere. It's not super light and you might want one of their smaller bags specifically for very light walk-around use, but it's a good weight for me.
2. Could carry a 15 inch laptop. This one's usually the killer. It can easily hold my laptop with lots of other stuff.
3. Travels well. I can fit my laptop, camera with a spare lens or two and an ipad mini along with cords and other things.
4. Looks beautiful. Honestly, I think most well made and functional camera bags out there look terrible. If you're a photographer and trying to engage and impress people, how you look is very important. I wish that wasn't a factor, but it really is. And people notice this bag. It gets compliments and stands out.
5. Is well made. At first I was nervous to take it around because it was so beautiful. But after 4 months of beating the hell out of it, it looks exactly the same. I photograph a lot in the rain and the snow and it looks even better than when I first got it. Every detail and stitch looks great.

I have it in Smoke. I love the color. The strap and handle combo is really nice. The closing latches take a week or two to get used to opening and closing fast, but I like them a lot now.

Best. Bag. Ever.

  1. Fits my Canon 7D and two lenses, plus my Macbook Air and a whole other mess of stuff. Tons of storage, but doesn't look like a "duffel bag". Stitching quality is amazing and appears like it will last a long time.

  2. Sometimes I don't want to tote around a bunch of camera gear in one bag and my laptop in another. Some shoots just need a camera body and a couple of lenses, and a laptop (and the usual junk of cables and paperwork). Sometimes I don't want to walk down the street carrying a bag that says "hey, I am full of expensive camera gear, mug me".

I was originally looking for a messenger bag to fit my laptop in, nothing to do with camera gear. Then I happened on this bag. It absolutely fit the bill. All the interior dividers are removable, making this not just a bag for a laptop and camera, but also a regular messenger bag as needed.

The bag isn't inexpensive. But then it seems like a really well made bag. Ridiculously well made to be honest. Thick, substantial, well padded for gear. The canvas looks like it will last a lifetime. Well designed too.

Oh - and I can just just just shove my 17" laptop in it. It is tight, but it works.

  3. Well constructed, well designed, fantastic bag. Ideal size for 15" mac and nikon DSLR with extra lens. Without DSLR compartments ideal for splitting up all your gear. Well padded inside protects all my gear.ONA "The Union Street Camera and Laptop Bag" - Ranger Tan

  4. This is the perfect bag. The beauty is in the details, like the clasps on the front, magnetic closure on the back pocket, ample amount of padding with dividers that can be removed. It's really great, I carry around a Canon 6D, 24-105mm lens, 50mm lens, sometimes an additional lens, a 580EX flash, along with my battery charger, batteries, sd card wallet, and some personal items. For me it is the perfect size, and it is very comfortable to wear all day. The leather strap pad contours to your shoulder and the front clasps make the bag easy to open/close/secure with one hand in seconds. I wear this through a whole wedding or portrait shoot on location and could not live without it now. The feel of the waxed leather is also extremely nice and gets better as you wear the bag in a little. There is also more wax available through the ONA site to keep your bag looking great through the years to come.

That being said, it's obviously not for everyone. It's a messenger bag so if your shoulder gets tired wearing a bag all day this bag won't magically be any better. Reading through the negative reviews on here, I also feel like people don't read AND think about the dimensions of the bag and what it can hold. It can truly hold a lot, but it's not a military duffel bag, and although it can hold a laptop and iPad and all these other items...that doesn't mean you can just load it up with every imaginable item mentioned in the details or photos of the bag and have it hold it all. They are example photos, so be smart before you buy it.

Finally, some complain it's too costly, but you know what people, it's a hand made product out of quality materials. It's was not designed to be a cheap do-everything bag, but a fashionable, high quality, high functioning bag. I think if you think the bag would meet your needs in terms of size and design than you will find it hard or impossible to find anything better.

  6. I ordered this as a gift for my sister who is an amateur photographer. She wanted a bag that function as camera bag, purse and laptop bag all in one. She looked long and hard and finally chose this one and is THRILLED with it.
