Great Follow Focus

Trudeau Silicone Opener Random Colors

Trudeau Silicone Opener Random Colors

Follow-focus for DSLR. I think it would be horrible to open jars with. But it really is a good cheap alternative for a follow-focus. I've seen similar DIY designs using zip ties, hose clamps, etc. This is perfect because it's durable, but because it's a softer, malleable material I'm less worried about tightening on my lens.

I've used this with the Canon 18-55mm kit lens that comes with the T2i. That cheap, plastic lens has a pretty narrow focus ring, and this has held on very well.

As others have mentioned, it is only 1 jar opener, and not a set of 3 as the picture would indicate. This could be spelled out in the listing somewhere, I don't know. I wasn't angry about that, but I know some people are.

If you rebranded this as a follow-focus, you could easily charge $20 apiece or more, and they'd still sell.

  1. There's only 1 when you order it so the picture is misleading. I got a red one. It works very well as a cheap follow focus.

  2. Read online that this works great as a cheap follow focus when using DSLRs in 1080p mode. Whoever came up with this idea is a genius. Works great. Try it, you'll like it.

  3. Great for a follow focus!, if someone had made this for a follow focus instead of a jar opener it would have cost $100

  4. I got mine at Target, but then found them here. It works great. And, you're right. If the inventor had sold this as a follow focus it would a lot more than $3.00 (Target price).

  6. I bought this product as a cheap follow-focus, not as a jar opener. As a follow-focus it easily fits onto any lens and the thick rubber handle provides a great ease-in/ease-out. For that purpose I would highly recommend it. As a jar opener... I have no idea.

  7. We do not use this Item for what was intended for (Jar Opener) we use it in Video Productions as a follow focus tool. It works great for us, the only draw back is that you need to add a clip, on the end, so that it wont get lose around the lens. Other than that, we love it and would recommended. I have not use it as a Jar Opener but I can imagine that it would work great, for the way that is built. Love the product.
